Always thinking:
The most significant means of reducing risk is to split storage into entirely separate areas. For instance if the contents of a large store are spread between four separate stores the majority of risks will be reduced by 75%. Ardington Archives’ policy has always been to do exactly that and
accept the additional costs involved in maintaining small separated stores.

Business Needs - Risk Management
It is unquestionably safer to store sensitive documents in a properly run anonymous archive facility than in your office.
Quite apart from the security features of our own archive facility, all the time documents remain in your office a number of people are likely to know where they are and have relatively easy access to them. That is not the case once they are
archived offsite.
One of the key elements of good archiving practice is to ensure that the information being archived is completely safe from all possible risks. This involves thorough consideration of the types of threats that may be involved, and how these threats can be minimised by means of:
- the physical design of the archive store and its fittings
- the procedures put in place in respect of the day to day running of the store
